Installing a VPN Server

OS Windows Server 2003 Server and Client OS Windows XP)

Server Setup:
1. Configuring the NIC through a static IP address, internal IP berup one of the LAN, the other public IP berup. To be safe, you plug a network firewall to ensure your LAN secure against the possibility of access from the outside.
2. Click Start - Programs - Administrative Tools - Routing and Remote Access. On the left, there is a panel with the server status icons.
3. Right-click the server icon and from the popup menu that appears select "Configure and Enable Routing and Remote Access". This wizard will display the Routing and Remote Access. Click Next, until there is a choice pengkonfigurasian type routing.
4. Select "Virtual Private Network (VPN) server, and click Next.
5. In the Remote Client Protocol option, select 'Yes, all required protocols are on the list', then Next. Default setting is TCP / IP.
6. Select the network card connected to a public network, and then click Next.
7. Click the 'Automatic', if your network has a DHCP server and provide. If not, click the option 'From a specified range of address', and give range for the client's IP and click Next.
8. Next to configure the VPN setup authentication mode, click 'No, I dont want to setup this server to use RADIUS now', and click Next.
9. Click Finish to end setup Routing and Remote Access.
The next stage is to apply the settings to a user policy so that remote users can dial-in.
Policy in Server Setup (working for a remote user can dial-in):
1. Click Start - Programs - Administrative Tools - Remote Access Policies
2. From User Management Console, select the user and set the Dial-In Access to the 'Allow Access'
3. In the right pane, right-click on the option 'Allow access if dial-in permission enabled' and select propertiesnya.
4. Click the 'Grant Remote Access Permission', then click 'Ok' and close the Routing and Remote Access MMC.
Giving permission for remote users to the VPN server configuration steps include:
1. Click Start - Programs - Administrative Tools - Active Directory Users and Computer
2. Click 2x on the user that we will give permission, and the property page click the 'Dial-In' and select the 'Allow Access' Access permissions of the option Dial-In or (VPN).
3. Click 'Ok' and close the Active Directory Users and Computer MMC.
Finish for the steps setup a VPN in Windows 2003 Server. And below is the setup steps for diclientnya, in this case using the Windows XP operating system.

Client Setup:

1. Click Start - Programs - Accessories - Communication.
2. Click on 'New Connection Wizard'
3. Select 'Connect to the network to my workplace' and click 'Next'.
4. Click on 'Virtual Private Network Connection' and click 'Next'.
5. Give it a name in the connection, such as "Connection to Office 'and click' Next '
6. Give IP address or DNS name for the VPN server and click 'Next'.
7. Click Finish button.
